Setting Attainable Goals and Accomplishing Them

Having goals is easy but accomplishing them is an entirely different story. I was one of those people who bought a bunch of fancy colored pens, white boards, and planners to seem like I was getting my life together. You know the type, the pseudo-organized college student who was really losing sleep and on edge from too many frappuccinos from Starbucks. It was all just a ruse and I was still procrastinating, nearly missing deadlines, and still stuck in the exact same place. I wasn’t accomplishing anything new, I wasn’t challenging myself or setting myself up for better. I was just existing.

Setting goals gives your life structure and can motivate you into accomplishing them. However, it is important to set attainable and realistic goals. For example, saying that you want to get a Ferrari before tomorrow but you only work a minimum wage job and have little to no savings, may be a little unrealistic. Instead of setting yourself up to be disappointed, it’s important to set attainable goals in a realistic time frame and take the steps to accomplishing those goals.

1.) Write it down!

If anyone knows me they know that I am extremely forgetful and if I don’t write something down I will, without a doubt, forget.

2.) Make short and long term goals.

Create a list of goals you can accomplish within the following six months, goals you can accomplish within a year, and goals you can work towards accomplishing for your future (within the next ten years). Here are the goals that I have set for myself and I’ve also included my “Road to Self Improvement” which has helped guide me into making small changes to assist in bettering  myself.

3.) Consider what YOU want out of life.

Think thoroughly about what you want from life and where you’d like to be. Cliche, maybe but you are the captain of your life. YOU. No one else can direct you through, you will land wherever YOU decide to. One of the problems I had was that I wanted more from life but I didn’t know what I wanted. I am often finding myself in a state of realization where I know that I am here and I exist. However, I know that I am here for a reason (what that reason may be, I don’t quite know yet) but I have the power to make my life into something amazing, not only for myself but for the lives around me.

4.) Don’t just set goals, WORK to accomplish them!

Writing your goals down is a step in the right direction but those are still just words on a sheet of paper. Now is the time to get over yourself and get to work! Dreams don’t come true over night.

5.) BE SPECIFIC!

Don’t forget to identify exactly what it is you want to accomplish!

Setting realistic and attainable goals is a MAJOR key to becoming successful. Where you are in life right now is not where you have to remain in the days to come. It is never too late to build your ideal future, however the time is right now. I implore each and every one of you all to write down everything you’d like to accomplish and place it in a place where you will see it regularly. Take responsibility of your future and start putting your dreams into motion! Remember, a goal without a plan is just a wish.

As always,

Peace, love, and light 🙂
